Corticosteroids
Topic: Pharmacology
A drug class with strong anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects (e.g., prednisolone, dexamethasone). They can cause hyperglycemia, masked signs of infection, fluid retention, peptic ulcers, bone loss and mood changes. After long-term use they suppress the adrenal glands, so they are tapered rather than stopped abruptly; monitor blood glucose and watch for infection.
- Also known as:
- Glucocorticoids, Steroids
- In Turkish:
- Kortikosteroidler
