Beta blockers
Topic: Pharmacology
A drug class that blocks beta-1 receptors in the heart (nonselective agents also block beta-2), lowering heart rate, contractility and blood pressure; used for hypertension, angina, arrhythmias and heart failure. Check the apical pulse and blood pressure first, and hold and consult if they are below ordered parameters. They can mask signs of hypoglycemia, nonselective agents can trigger bronchospasm in asthma, and they must not be stopped abruptly.
- Also known as:
- Beta-adrenergic blockers, Beta-blockers
- In Turkish:
