Acetaminophen

Topic: Pharmacology

A pain reliever and fever reducer that acts centrally and has little anti-inflammatory effect; unlike NSAIDs, it does not irritate the stomach or affect platelets. Overdose, including accidental overdose from several combination products, causes severe liver injury that may produce no symptoms for the first day; acetylcysteine is the antidote and works best when started early. Check every product the client takes for acetaminophen, stay within the ordered daily maximum, and take extra care with liver disease, regular alcohol use and malnutrition.

Also known as:
Paracetamol, APAP
In Turkish:
Parasetamol
