Hyponatremia
Topic: Medical-surgical
Serum sodium below 135 mmol/L, usually reflecting a relative excess of body water (e.g., inappropriate ADH secretion, heart failure, diuretics). It can progress from headache to confusion, seizures and coma. Monitor neurological status, take seizure precautions and apply fluid restriction as ordered. Correcting chronic hyponatremia too fast can cause osmotic demyelination.
