Standard deviation

A measure of how widely values spread around the mean: the typical distance of values from the mean. A small standard deviation means values cluster near the mean; a large one means they are widely spread. It is reported with the mean; for skewed data, the interquartile range (the middle 50% of values) is reported with the median. In a normal distribution, about 95% of values lie within ±2 standard deviations of the mean.
