Normal distribution

Topic: Management

A symmetrical, bell-shaped distribution in which the mean, median and mode are equal at the center. About 68% of values lie within ±1 standard deviation of the mean, 95% within ±2 and 99.7% within ±3. In a skewed distribution, values trail off to one side; with a right skew, the mean lies above the median. Parametric tests assume a roughly normal distribution; skewed data call for non-parametric tests.

Also known as:
Gaussian distribution, Bell curve, Skewed distribution
