Thrombolytics

Topic: Pharmacology

Drugs that dissolve existing clots by converting plasminogen to plasmin (e.g., alteplase, tenecteplase). They are used in acute ischemic stroke within the treatment window, in STEMI when timely percutaneous coronary intervention is not available, and in massive pulmonary embolism. The gravest risk is major bleeding, including intracranial hemorrhage. Verify eligibility and exclusion criteria with a checklist, keep blood pressure below the ordered limit, perform frequent neurological checks, avoid unnecessary punctures and IM injections afterward, and watch for bleeding and angioedema.

Also known as:
Fibrinolytics, Thrombolytic therapy, Clot busters
In Turkish:
Trombolitikler
