Ventricular fibrillation
Topic: Medical-surgical
Chaotic electrical activity in the ventricles that produces no effective contraction, no cardiac output and no pulse; the ECG shows an irregular, wavy line with no recognizable QRS. It is a shockable cardiac arrest rhythm and is fatal within minutes without treatment. Because a loose lead can mimic VF, confirm that the client is unresponsive and pulseless before acting on the monitor. Call for help, start high-quality CPR at once and defibrillate as soon as a defibrillator arrives; the shock must be given as fast as possible.
- Also known as:
- VF, V-fib
- In Turkish:
- Ventriküler fibrilasyon
