Wound dehiscence
Topic: Medical-surgical
Partial or complete separation of the edges of a surgical wound. Obesity, diabetes, infection, poor nutrition and anything that raises abdominal pressure, such as coughing, increase the risk. Evisceration (organs protruding through the wound) is an emergency: cover them with sterile saline-moistened dressings, place the client in low Fowler's position, keep the client NPO and notify the surgeon at once.
