Urinary incontinence

Topic: Medical-surgical

Involuntary leakage of urine. The main types are stress (with coughing, sneezing or lifting), urge (with a sudden strong need to void), overflow (from a bladder that does not empty fully) and functional (cannot reach the toilet in time because of mobility or cognitive problems) incontinence. It is not a normal part of aging. Look for the cause, support timed voiding and pelvic floor exercises, and keep the skin clean and dry.
