Incidence and prevalence

Topic: Community health

Two basic measures of disease frequency. Incidence is the rate of new cases in a population at risk over a given period and reflects the risk of getting the disease. Prevalence is the proportion of all cases, new and existing, at a point or over a period. For long-lasting chronic diseases, prevalence is high relative to incidence.
