Ageism

Topic: Community health

Stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination directed at people because of their age. WHO reports that ageism is widespread and harms the health, well-being and access to care of older people. In health care, examples include dismissing symptoms as "just old age" or making decisions with the family instead of the older person. Speak to the older adult directly and assess new symptoms instead of attributing them to aging.
