Stigma

Topic: Mental health

Negative stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination directed at people with mental illness or another health condition; when people turn it on themselves it is called self-stigma. It discourages help-seeking and treatment adherence. Use person-first language ("a person with schizophrenia" rather than "a schizophrenic"), examine your own attitudes and raise awareness in the community.
