Cultural competence

Topic: Community health

The ability to give effective care to people of different cultures with respect for their values, beliefs and practices. It involves awareness of one's own culture and biases, cultural knowledge, communication skills and tailoring care to the person. Cultural humility frames this as a lifelong process of self-reflection and learning from each client. Ask each client about their own beliefs and preferences rather than assuming.
