Therapeutic communication

Topic: Mental health

Purposeful, client-centered communication that helps clients express thoughts and feelings, understand their problems and cope. Core techniques are active listening, open-ended questions, reflecting, clarifying, using silence and summarizing. False reassurance ("Do not worry, everything will be fine"), giving advice, judging and asking "why" all block communication.
