Active listening
Topic: Fundamentals
Giving full attention to a speaker to understand both their words and their feelings. It includes facing the client, appropriate eye contact, nodding and brief prompts such as "go on", allowing silence, and then paraphrasing, reflecting feelings, clarifying and summarizing. Active listening shows respect and helps the nurse collect accurate assessment data.
