Nephron
Topic: Anatomy & physiology
The structural and functional unit of the kidney, about a million in each. Blood is filtered in the glomerulus and Bowman capsule; water, electrolytes and glucose are reabsorbed and wastes secreted along the proximal tubule, loop of Henle, distal tubule and collecting duct. Aldosterone and ADH fine-tune water and sodium balance in the distal segments. Diuretics act on different parts of the nephron.
