Atraumatic care

Topic: Pediatrics

An approach to pediatric care that minimizes the physical and psychological distress children and families experience in hospital. Core principles: prevent separation from parents, explain procedures in age-appropriate ways, use topical anesthetics and distraction for painful procedures, perform procedures in a treatment room rather than the child's bed, and give the child choices where possible.
